Plastic Dinnerware
Disposable plastic dinnerware built to read as a dressed table rather than a picnic: charger plates, rimmed plates, pre-rolled cutlery and shatterproof stemware, mostly in party-sized counts.
What makes plastic dinnerware look deliberate rather than cheap?
Three things do most of the work: a metallic or contrasting rim, a charger plate underneath to frame the setting, and cutlery that arrives pre-rolled in a napkin so each place is already composed. A plain white plate with loose cutlery is what reads as disposable.
What is a charger plate for?
A charger is the large plate — typically 13 in — that sits under the dinner plate and is not eaten from. It frames the setting and covers more of the tablecloth, which is the single quickest way to make a table look finished.
Is shatterproof stemware worth it?
For outdoors, by a pool, or with children present, yes. Acrylic and heavyweight plastic goblets hold a stem shape and survive being knocked over, which glass does not. They are not a substitute for crystal at a seated dinner.
