Home & Living
Lighting and decorative objects for rooms rather than tables — crystal LED chandeliers and wall sconces, cordless brass table lamps, solar and battery string lights for a garden or balcony, lanterns, and preserved roses under glass. The range is wide, from $14.99 for a set of string lights to $799 for a chandelier.
What is the difference between solar and battery string lights?
Solar lights carry their own panel and need several hours of direct daylight to run through the evening, which makes them suited to a garden, fence or balcony rail and means no wiring. Battery sets work anywhere, including indoors and in shade, and run on a predictable schedule rather than on how sunny the day was. For a covered porch or a table, battery is the more reliable choice.
Do the cordless lamps need wiring or an electrician?
No. The cordless table lamps are rechargeable and run without a cable, so they can sit on a table, shelf or mantel with no outlet nearby and move between rooms. The chandeliers and wall sconces are wired fixtures and do need mounting and connection, so factor in installation when ordering one of those.
How long do preserved roses last?
A preserved rose has had its sap replaced with a glycerin solution, so it holds its shape and colour for a year or more without water. Kept under its glass dome, out of direct sunlight and away from a radiator, it needs no care at all. Direct sun is the thing that fades it fastest, so position it away from a south-facing window.
