Flatware & Cutlery
Reusable stainless steel flatware alongside a few disposable and specialist pieces — 24-piece sets in plain, matte, gold-tone and pink-handled finishes, a children's set, a glass chopstick holder and a 450-count disposable cutlery kit with napkins and seasoning packets. Prices run $19 to $119.
What does a 24-piece flatware set include?
A 24-piece set is six place settings of four: dinner knife, dinner fork, dinner spoon and teaspoon. It does not include serving pieces or salad forks. If you regularly seat eight, two sets are the usual answer rather than one, since a 24-piece set leaves you short the moment anyone uses a second fork.
Is gold-tone stainless steel flatware dishwasher safe?
The gold tone is a surface finish over stainless steel, so it should be washed by hand to keep its even colour. A dishwasher's heat and detergent will gradually dull and patch a plated finish, and contact with other metals in a basket scratches it. Plain and matte stainless steel sets are dishwasher safe without this concern.
How do you keep stainless steel from spotting?
The marks that look like damage are almost always mineral deposits from water drying on the surface. Dry flatware with a cloth rather than letting it air dry, and do not leave it sitting in water or in contact with salt, lemon or vinegar for long periods, which pits the surface over time. A matte finish hides water marks far better than a mirror polish.
