Table Décor & Candlelight
Candle holders, lanterns and candlesticks in metal and glass, with cloches and tealight orbs, for the centre of a table.
Taper, pillar or tealight?
Tapers give height and a formal line, and suit a long table. Pillars are stable and burn for hours, so they work where a candle will be lit all evening. Tealights are for scatter — several small flames down a table read warmer than one large one.
How high should a centrepiece be?
Either below eye level or well above it. Anything at eye height blocks the conversation across the table, which is the single most common centrepiece mistake. Low clusters or tall thin candlesticks both work; a mid-height arrangement does not.
Why a lantern rather than an open candle?
A pierced or glazed lantern shields the flame, so it survives a draught and an open window, and it throws a pattern rather than a bare point of light. It is also the safer choice on a table with a cloth.
