Storage & Organization
Pieces that organise a surface rather than hide it: utensil caddies, apothecary jars, wine racks, salt and pepper mills and tissue box covers.
Where does organising actually start?
With what is used daily. A caddy by the hob holding the four or five tools you really reach for removes most of the daily friction. Deep-cupboard sorting looks like progress and changes almost nothing about how the kitchen is used.
Open storage or closed?
Open storage works for anything used often enough that dust never settles — utensils, salt and pepper, fruit. Closed storage is for the rest. Open storage of rarely used things is how a counter ends up crowded and still unhelpful.
Ceramic or steel burrs in a mill?
Ceramic does not corrode and keeps an edge longer, which makes it the right choice for salt as well as pepper. Steel mechanisms grind faster and cost less but should be kept away from salt.
