Cake Stands & Dessert Displays
Cake stands and dessert displays in porcelain, ceramic and acacia — footed plates, pedestal stands, tiered displays and pastry platters.
Why does a cake stand make a difference?
Height. The same cake on a flat plate looks served and on a stand looks finished, because the gap underneath reads as deliberate rather than crowded. A stand also uses the air above a table, which fits far more on the same surface at a dessert table.
What size stand for what?
Eight inches takes a single cake or a round of cheese; ten inches a tart or a batch of pastry; twelve inches is the centrepiece size. If you are buying one, buy ten — it is the only size that handles a cake, a cheese board and a pile of biscuits equally well.
Porcelain, ceramic or wood?
Porcelain and ceramic take anything, go in a dishwasher and suit a formal table. Acacia and other hardwoods are warmer and better for pastry, bread and cheese, but must be hand washed and dried immediately. For a stand that will hold an iced cake, choose ceramic.
