Charger Plates
Charger plates in acrylic, plastic and metal-rimmed finishes, almost all 13 in across, sold in sets of four and six and in event counts up to fifty.
What is a charger plate actually for?
It is the large plate that sits under the dinner plate and is never eaten from. It frames the setting, covers more of the tablecloth, and gives the place a visual base — which is why a table with chargers reads as laid and a table without them reads as served.
What size do I need?
Thirteen inches is the standard, and nearly everything here is that size. It leaves roughly an inch and a half of visible rim around a 10 in dinner plate, which is the proportion that looks deliberate. Anything smaller stops reading as a charger.
How many, and do they go in the dishwasher?
One per guest, and buy the event count rather than sets of four if you are laying more than twelve places. Acrylic and plastic chargers are display pieces — wipe them clean rather than putting them through a dishwasher, which clouds the surface and dulls a metallic rim.
