Fifty guests, four hundred pieces, and nothing left to wash. This is the box you open at nine in the morning and forget about until the cake — two plate sizes, cups, a double run of napkins and a full set of cutlery for everyone at the table.
The plates, cups and napkins are printed paper in a soft cream, carrying a watercolour meadow of poppies, pansies, oxeye daisies, lavender and clover. The 23 cm / 9 in dinner plate holds a proper serving without folding at the rim; the 18 cm / 7 in side plate takes cake and starters; the 266 ml / 9 oz cup covers a soft drink or a glass of punch. The knife, fork and spoon are moulded in solid ivory plastic, weighted enough through the handle to use on a full plate.
Two napkins per guest is the detail that matters here — the second one is the one somebody always needs. It suits a garden wedding, a milestone birthday, a christening or a long summer lunch, and everything stacks flat for the drive there.
