Cast iron is used for tea for one reason: mass. The walls hold heat long enough that the last cup out of the pot is close to the temperature of the first, which is what a thin ceramic pot cannot do. A pot this heavy stays hot on the table without a warmer under it.

The enamel lining is the part worth understanding. Bare cast iron seasons and rusts and asks to be dried by hand every time; an enamelled interior does neither, so the pot can be rinsed and left like any other teapot. It also keeps the iron out of the tea, so a delicate green or white leaf tastes of itself.

Fill it to about 700 ml in use rather than to the brim, which leaves room for the infuser and stops it rising over the rim. That is three generous cups, or two with a refill. The handle is wrapped in twine for grip, and the spout is cut to pour without dripping down the body.
