Hand-Woven Bamboo Steamer, 24 cm, Single Layer
A single-layer bamboo steamer at 24 cm, hand-woven from fir without glue or paint. Bamboo absorbs the condensation that would otherwise drip back onto what you are steaming, which is the reason it is still preferred over metal for dumplings and buns.
The weave is left natural, so small burrs and visible seams are part of how it is made rather than faults. Season it before first use by steaming it empty for a few minutes, which clears the raw-wood smell and swells the weave slightly into a better fit.
Line it with parchment or cabbage leaf for anything sticky, and dry it fully in open air before stacking. Stored damp it will mark; stored dry it lasts for years and improves with use. A single layer suits one household batch; buy two if you cook for more than four, since stacking is what makes a bamboo steamer efficient rather than just traditional.
