A 500 ml enamel mug on metal, printed with a dog design.
Enamel is glass fused to metal, and that is why it has been the outdoor mug for a century: unbreakable in a pack, light enough to carry, and glazed so it does not hold the taste of whatever was in it last. Bare metal does.
It also goes on a flame, which no ceramic mug can. A mug that can be set on a camp stove to reheat coffee is a different object from one that only holds it.
Five hundred millilitres is generous — a large coffee, a soup, or cereal. The print means it works as a gift as readily as as kit, which is most of why enamel mugs sell: they are the one piece of camping equipment someone will use at a desk.
- Enamel on metal: unbreakable, and holds no stale taste
- Flame safe: reheat on a camp stove, unlike ceramic
- 500 ml: a large coffee, a soup, or cereal
- Printed dog design: works as a gift, not only as kit
- Light: the reason it goes in a pack
- Chips if struck: and will rust at a chip
