Food Storage
Containers, canisters and jars for a counter that stays visible: ceramic spice jars, airtight tea canisters, glass dry-food containers and wood-lidded jars.
Glass or ceramic?
Glass lets you see the level, which is the whole point for dry goods you refill — rice, pasta, flour. Ceramic blocks light, which matters for tea, coffee, ground spices and anything that fades or stales on a sunlit counter. Buy by what is going inside, not by how it looks empty.
What makes a lid actually airtight?
A gasket, usually silicone, and a clamp or screw that compresses it. A lid that simply rests in place is a dust cover, not an airtight seal. Check for a stated airtight or leak-proof lid if the contents need to stay dry.
Should storage live on the counter or in a cupboard?
Whatever is used daily belongs on the counter, and that is the only reason to pay for a container that looks good. Everything refilled monthly can go in a cupboard in whatever it came in.
