Ostrica Rock-Textured Ceramic Soup Plate
A shell, pressed into a soup plate. The outline follows an oyster rather than a circle, and the surface carries a rock texture that catches light unevenly across the well.
That texture is doing something, not just decorating. A plate with a flat glaze shows every mark a spoon leaves; a stone-textured one absorbs them into the pattern, so the plate still looks composed at the end of a course rather than scraped. The shell form also gives the rim an uneven height, which frames a soup or a risotto more generously on one side than the other — the same trick a chef uses when plating off-centre.
Four sizes, from an 8 in starter plate to a 14 in sharing dish. Because the outline is irregular, two different sizes set together read as a pair rather than as a stack.
