Palm Leaf Plates, 10 in and 6 in, 100 pc
No two of these are the same colour. They are pressed from fallen areca palm leaves, so the grain that was in the leaf is still in the plate.
The leaves are collected after they drop, soaked and heat-pressed into shape — nothing is bleached, coated or dyed, which is why each plate carries its own pattern of browns. They are rigid enough for a hot main course and they will not go soft under sauce, which is the usual failure point of a compostable plate. After use they break down in a home compost heap rather than needing an industrial facility.
Fifty large and fifty small covers a main and a dessert for fifty guests, or a main for fifty with the small plates held back for canapés.
