Cast Iron Four-Hole Frying Pan
Four wells moulded into the base, so four eggs cook separately and come out the same round shape instead of running into one another across a flat pan.
Cast iron is the reason it works. It takes longer to heat than a thin pan and then holds that heat evenly across all four wells, so the egg in the back corner cooks at the same rate as the one at the front — which is the usual failure of a multi-well pan in aluminium. The surface is non-stick, so an egg releases with very little oil, and the handle is wood rather than metal, meaning it stays cool enough to hold without a cloth.
Beyond fried eggs it makes egg dumplings, small burger patties, pancakes and crumpets. Four at a time is the number that gets a family fed in one pass rather than three.
- Four moulded wells: four eggs, four identical shapes
- Cast iron: even heat to every well, not just the centre
- Non-stick surface: releases with very little oil
- Wooden handle: stays cool enough to hold bare-handed
- Four at a time: one pass instead of three
- Beyond eggs: dumplings, patties, pancakes and crumpets
