Vitrelle is three bonded layers of glass rather than ceramic, and that construction is the reason Corelle plates are what they are: thin enough to stack in a fraction of the space, light enough to carry a full stack one-handed, and far harder to chip than stoneware of the same thickness.

The pattern is drawn from hand-painted Mexican tile. It sits against wood and terracotta and brings colour to a table without needing anything else on it — which is the argument for a patterned set over a plain one.

It is also made from recycled glass and is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe, which very few patterned sets manage all three of.
