Winter Floral Christmas Paper Dessert Plates, 7 in, 36 ct

Each plate is pressed from coated paper board with a shallow bevelled rim — the faint concentric rings you can feel under a thumb are what stop the plate flexing when someone balances a slice of pie and a fork on it. The face is coated, so cream, custard and berry juice sit on the surface rather than seeping into the board.

The pattern is painted rather than drawn flat: large open blooms in red, dusty coral and cream ivory, each with a small cluster of gold-ochre stamens, set against a deep charcoal ground with sage foliage, feathery fir sprigs, tulip-shaped buds and clusters of tiny cream and red berries running edge to edge. Because the ground is dark rather than white, it carries a Christmas dinner and an ordinary winter birthday equally well. At approx. 18 cm / 7 in it is a dessert and side size — pie, cookies, appetisers, a plate left out for Santa.
