Compostable Sugarcane Plates, Bowls and Cutlery, 200 pc
Two hundred pieces of sugarcane and bamboo pulp — 6 in and 7 in plates, 350 ml and 500 ml bowls, 8 oz cups, straws and fruit sticks.
Sugarcane pulp is a by-product of pressing cane for juice rather than a crop grown for packaging, which is the honest version of the sustainability claim. The maker states it degrades within three months, which is far faster than coated paper and not comparable to plastic at all.
Moulded pulp is also sturdier than coated paper for the food it is most used for. It does not soften under something hot or oily, which is where a printed paper plate fails first.
Two plate sizes and two bowl sizes is what makes this a full service rather than a plate count: a meal plate, a dessert plate, a deep bowl and a shallow one.
- Sugarcane and bamboo pulp: a by-product, not a crop grown for packaging
- Degrades in about 3 months: as stated by the maker
- Holds hot and oily food: where coated paper softens
- Two plate and two bowl sizes: a full service, not a plate count
- 200 pieces: plates, bowls, cups, straws and sticks
- Check local composting: kerbside collection varies
