Baby & Kids
Cotton goods and small equipment for babies and young children — muslin washcloths, hooded bath towels, catch-all and triangle bibs, anti-spit-up pillows, sun hats, hooded jumpsuits, children's UV umbrellas and a covered bottle drying rack. The collection runs from $9.99 to about $132.
Why is cotton muslin used for baby washcloths?
Muslin is a loose, open cotton weave, so it is thin and soft against new skin and it dries quickly, which matters because a damp cloth left folded is where bacteria grow. It also gets softer with every wash rather than stiffer. Wash new muslin once before first use to open the weave and remove any finishing residue from manufacture.
What makes a hooded baby towel useful?
The hood covers the head immediately after a bath, which is where a small child loses heat fastest, and it leaves both of your hands free to hold the child rather than a corner of fabric. A hooded towel also stays on during the walk from bath to changing mat, which a flat towel does not. These are cotton, so they absorb properly rather than just feeling soft.
Do bottle drying racks need a cover?
A cover is worth having if the rack sits out on a counter, because it keeps dust and kitchen airborne grease off clean teats and bottles between feeds. It is not a steriliser and does not replace one. Wash and air dry the rack itself regularly, since standing water in the base tray is the part people forget.
