Balza Silver Pedestal Ceramic Fruit Bowl
This is a bowl designed to be left out. The pedestal lifts it off the surface and the base flares into a skirted rim, so the silhouette reads as an object on a coffee table even with nothing in it — which is the test a fruit bowl has to pass, because it is the one piece of serveware that lives permanently in view.
The silver finish is on ceramic rather than metal, and that is the better way round for fruit. Metal bowls mark, tarnish and react; a glazed ceramic surface wipes clean, will not change colour against citrus, and does not carry cold into whatever sits in it.
It takes fruit, but it is just as good for the things that otherwise sit in a drawer — wrapped sweets, nuts, keys by a door. A skirted base gives it enough presence to look intentional holding any of them.
- Pedestal base: lifts the bowl off the surface
- Skirted rim: a silhouette that reads when the bowl is empty
- Silver on ceramic: will not tarnish or react with citrus
- Wipes clean: a glazed surface, not bare metal
- Left out, not put away: the piece that lives in view
- Fruit or otherwise: nuts, sweets, keys by a door
