Sesamo Dotted Oval Ceramic Serving Plate
The surface is scattered with fine raised dots, close to sesame on a bread crust. It is a texture chosen for what it hides: the faint scuffs and cutlery marks that show immediately on a flat glaze simply disappear into it.
The oval is the useful shape for serving. It fits a whole fish, a row of sliced meat or a line of pastry in a way a round plate cannot, and it sits lengthways in the middle of a table without taking the width. The rim turns gently inward, which keeps sauce from running to the edge when the plate is carried.
Matte or glossy, and the choice is about the room rather than the food. Matte absorbs light and reads as the quieter, more contemporary of the two; glossy reflects it and looks closer to traditional restaurant china.
