japanese-vintage-ceramic-coffee-cup-and-saucer-set
Japanese Vintage Stoneware Coffee Cup and Saucer

A handmade stoneware coffee cup with its saucer, in a vintage Japanese style. The cup measures roughly 8.5 cm across the rim.

Eight and a half centimetres is a proper coffee cup rather than a mug — the size that suits an espresso with milk or a short black, drunk while it is hot. A larger cup guarantees the last third goes cold.

Stoneware is heavier and more porous than porcelain, which is why it holds heat longer and why each piece takes the glaze slightly differently. Handmade means the wall thickness and the glaze break vary from cup to cup; that is the point rather than a fault.

A cup with its own saucer changes how it is used. A mug is carried away; a cup and saucer stays on a table, which is the difference between drinking coffee and having coffee.

8.5 cm rim: a coffee cup, not a mug — drunk hot

Handmade stoneware: glaze and thickness vary piece to piece

Holds heat: stoneware over thin porcelain

Saucer included: a cup that stays at the table

Vintage Japanese style: understated rather than decorated

Hand wash: to protect a handmade glaze

Details

Includes

One cup and one saucer

Material

Stoneware, handmade

Rim diameter

Approx. 8.5 cm

Care

Hand wash recommended

Why shop Maison's Kitchen

Free shipping to Canada and the United States, with no minimum order.

30-day returns — send it back for a full refund.

Tracked — every order ships with a tracking link.
